Yazoo Brewery Tours

A trip to Yazoo Brewing Company now means heading to Madison, not the downtown brewery row most visitors expect. The brewery left the Gulch in 2019 and settled onto a 6.5-acre campus north of the city. That distance is exactly why a private vehicle matters, which is the idea behind our Yazoo Brewery tours. We drive you straight to the brewery and use the same vehicle for whatever comes next.

Arriving at Yazoo’s Madison Campus

Your chauffeur brings the group to 900 River Bluff Drive, about 10 miles north of downtown and overlooking the Cumberland River. Yazoo opened in 2003 at Marathon Motor Works, moved to the Gulch in 2010, then landed on this 6.5-acre Madison campus in 2019 after outgrowing both earlier sites.

The move did more than change the address. Yazoo roughly doubled its space to a 24,000-square-foot brewery and a 5,000-square-foot taproom, trading the increasingly developed Gulch for a calmer setting with river views and far more room outside. Sit down on the patio with a beer, and that difference becomes clear right away.

Dogs are welcome outside, though not inside the building, and you can take photos throughout the taproom and production area during a tour. Yazoo also brought food onsite after leaving behind the walkable restaurant options that once surrounded its Gulch location.

We set your arrival around the confirmed tour slot, not a rough estimate. Yazoo holds a strict 10-minute grace period and won’t seat a late party.

A Look Inside the Yazoo Tour

A public tour starts at $10 per person and includes beer samples plus a 5-ounce souvenir glass to take home. Bookings run from 1 to 30 guests, and larger parties call ahead to set up something separate. The hour-long visit covers the production process and some of the stories behind the beers that helped define Yazoo over two decades.

The beer history gets more interesting once you move beyond the standard lineup. SUE became Tennessee’s first legally produced high-gravity ale in 2009, while Gerst reaches back much further. Yazoo partnered with the Chandler family behind Gerst Haus to bring back a beer associated with Nashville’s original Gerst Brewery, matching the modern version as closely as possible to the old recipe.

Yazoo also has a stranger side of the cellar. Its Embrace the Funk program began in 2012 and uses wild yeast, souring cultures, and wooden casks for beers well outside the pale ale lane. Saison de Bois and Foudre Noire age in foeders before release, alongside rotating names like Octatonic and Grisette.

Who Ends Up at Yazoo

Couples pick Yazoo for the river view patio, a different backdrop than the downtown brewery row. Bachelor and bachelorette crews favor the same patio for extra room, rather than competing for a single table.

Corporate outings prefer the semi-private taproom, which holds up to 75 guests and feels far more casual than a formal event venue.

Birthdays and weekend friend trips like Yazoo for its casual food-and-beer combination, an easy single stop or a pairing with another brewery nearby.

The Best Time to Add Yazoo to Your Day

Yazoo’s taproom opens daily, though the guided tour runs Friday through Sunday only. A weekday stop still works as taproom time instead of the full walkthrough, and most parties add another 30 to 60 minutes there for food or a second round.

Add that extra time in and a full visit lands close to two hours. Weekend afternoons draw the largest crowds, so booking an early tour slot usually means more room at the bar afterward.

Vehicles Sized for the Trip

For a brewery day, the right vehicle has less to do with luxury than with how many people, bottles, and stops you want to fit into the afternoon:

  • When the day includes a stop before or after Yazoo, four to six friends fit well together in one SUV. Nobody splits into a second car, and there’s still room for whatever growler or case someone buys on the way out.
  • Bachelor parties and birthday crews usually start the day at one hotel and move through two or three breweries before heading back downtown for dinner. That fits a Sprinter limousine for groups up to 12, or an Executive Sprinter for up to 14.
  • Corporate outings and larger celebrations usually need more room once the semi-private taproom space is part of the day and the whole group needs to land at River Bluff Drive together. That’s up to 28 in a limousine coach, or up to 56 in a motorcoach.

Reserving Your Yazoo Brewery Tour

At Whiskey Trail Tours, we know brewery afternoons rarely go exactly as planned. Someone orders another round, dinner moves back, or one more brewery suddenly sounds like a very good idea. We create our reservations with enough room for the day to have a personality, from the first stop to the last.

Tell us your Yazoo Brewery tour time, passenger count, and what you want to add around it, and we’ll help put the pieces together. Call us at (615) 942-1033, email us at info@whiskeytrailtours.com, or send us the details through our contact form. Once we have your reservation confirmed, we can plan the rest of your brewery day around it.
